The latest Times University rankings place Birmingham Law School 7th in the UK, while the Guardian University Guide placed us at 8th.

The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise puts Birmingham Law School 7th in the country for world-leading and internationally excellent research.

Academics working here are regular contributors to the scholarly literature on the law and the policy-making process.

Birmingham Law School in 2009:

• over 30 members of academic staff, from all over the world
• nearly 1000 students, over half on the LLB programme
• over 100 students reading for the 2-year LLB for Graduates
• 49 students on the 1-year Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies (CPE)
• 57 postgraduate LLM students and 56 research postgraduates
• 14 Postgraduate Teaching Assistants - research students who teach up to 70 hours per year in the School

A focus for the School's academic research is provided by three institutes:

• Institute of Judicial Administration (IJA)
• Institute of Medical Law (IML)
