International Students

International Entrance Requirements:

Language Requirement:

If your first language is not English you must provide an English language qualification. Recognised qualifications are:

IELTS TOEFL (Old) TOEFL IBT*** (New)
7.0 with no less than 6.5 in any band 600* / 250** plus Test of Written English (TWE) 4.5 100 with no less than 25 in writing
* paper-based test (PBT) **Computer-Based Test (CBT) ***Internet Based Test (IBT)

If you need to improve your level of English in order to meet the minimum entry-level requirement you may be able attend one of the full-time courses run by our English for International Students Unit. Please see their website at www.eisu.bham.ac.uk

Academic Requirement:

Entry requirements for our programmes can be seen below.

A-Level:

  • Grades AAA achieved in one sitting.
  • We do not accept either General Studies or Critical Thinking.
  • Re-sits are considered on a case by case basis.
  • Candidates wishing to apply for Law with French or Law with German must achieve a grade A in that language.
  • Candidates wishing to apply for Law with Business must achieve a grade B in GCSE Maths

International Baccalaureate:

We require 36 points overall with 6 points in English. Candidates wishing to apply for Law with French or Law with German must achieve 6 points at higher level in the Language. Candidates wishing to apply for Law with Business must achieve 5 points or above in Maths.

European Baccalaureate:

We require an average score of 7.5 overall. Candidates wishing to apply for Law with Business must achieve 7.0  or above in Maths.

Access Course:

We will accept an Access Course, so long as the Access Course in question has been accredited or recognised by the University of Birmingham.

Other Qualifications:

We welcome all applications through UCAS and any offer made will closely match an overseas equivalent to our standard A-Level entry requirements. For further information, please contact the International Office.
